A DBA recently attended me on the “Query Shortcuts” option within Management Studio. Now, I have to admit that I’m lazy from time to time and a horrible typist on Monday mornings and therefore using the option a lot, especially while debugging.
The option is quite self-explanatory, it simply allows you to execute a stored procedure and the highlighted text will be passed as a parameter. What’s more interesting is that this can be a custom stored procedure as well.
Management Studio Custom Shortcuts Example
For example a custom debugging stored procedure;
Now to create the shortcut within SQL Server Management Studio; Open the Options dialog (Tools -> Options), expand the “Environmental” and “Keyboard” nodes, and then select “Query Shortcuts” . Pick a Shortcut and the name of the procedure.
